Christmas is just around the corner

Anna Bezler, staff writer

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas is just around the corner. The weather is getting colder, the lights are getting brighter, and the smiles are getting wider. Christmas is the perfect time for families to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Presents and gifts are bought and received, and trees are being put up. Red and green lights are strung around the house and the smell of cookies and candy canes spread around the house. Santa Claus visits churches and malls and kids get to tell him what they want for Christmas in hopes that it will be sitting by the tree on Christmas morning. What is not to love?

For my family and many others, Christmas is always about traditions. On the day after Thanksgiving, the fall decorations come down, and the wreaths and trees go up. Every kid in the family has their own set of ornaments that they get to hang on the tree. Ornaments like “Baby’s First Christmas” to “Merry Christmas from the Bezlers” are hung up all over the tree. Christmas music plays on the radio as we decorate around the house. For the weeks to follow, my parents are frantically trying to purchase gifts and plane tickets for family to fly in. There always seems to be a Christmas movie on the TV.

On Christmas Eve, we do the same thing every single year. We all get dressed up to visit Santa on the square, then we come home and get into our pajamas and fuzzy socks. We bake cookies and watch movies until we can’t stay awake anymore. On Christmas Day, we open presents and family comes over. We eat really good food and play games all night. To my family, Christmas has always  been about being around the people we love. So have fun this holiday season and always remember to be thankful for what you have. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Merry Christmas!
