The impact of Stevens Dance and Gymnastics

Erin Lind, staff writer

Stevens Dance and Gymnastics has been a part of my life for the past 14 years, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Stevens has been my second home and everyone there is like family. Dancing is a huge passion of mine, and it has helped me through a lot of struggles and downfalls in my life. If I’m having a bad day; or there’s just a lot on my mind, dancing is my escape from reality. I turn into a whole new person; everything that is on my mind I throw it into my dancing and it just changes me. Dancing is also good for keeping busy! If you are looking for a sport or a hobby that keeps you busy and keeps you moving, dancing is the way to go. Being a dancer keeps you very busy; you always have practice and there’s always something you can improve on. You learn your limits and sometimes it pushes you past that. You are constantly learning new tricks and moves, and the feeling that overcomes you when you nail a trick you’ve been working on for a while is just exhilarating! At Stevens we work hard as a team and we help each other out if someone is struggling. We’re a family and we don’t let anyone fall. We stick together and we pull it off in the end to put on a magnificent recital at the end of the year! Recital is my favorite time of year because all your hard work that you have put in since the beginning of the year comes together and turns into an amazing dance! You become a completely different person on stage and all your worries that you ever had about that dance just go away. Being on the stage gives you a breathtaking feeling, and it is just amazing! I’m going to miss my second home, but I will be back to watch every recital just to feel at home again!
