Finding fall fun

Megan Evans, Staff Writer

With fall approaching, many people may be racking their brains for ways to enjoy this season. If you are desperately bored and willing to make this fall one to remember, you’ve come to the right place! If you’re into everything hauntingly terrifying, October is the month for you! Haunted houses are located all over Illinois if you’re up for a horrifying weekend trip. If ghouls and ghosts aren’t you’re thing, I don’t blame you! Fall has much more to offer than screams and scares. Take a drive down any country road and you’ll see the trees letting go of summer in the most beautiful and colorful way. Or grab some family/friends and visit the nearest pumpkin patch! (Bomke’s Patch is nearby and full of choices!) Spend the evening cutting out goofy faces in your prize-sized pumpkin, while drinking everyone’s fall favorite, apple cider!

Host a Halloween get-together with friends and give it a fun theme like Disney Characters or Jungle Animals. “My favorite fall activity is going to football games,” states JHS senior, Carlie Day. With NFL football starting up, every football lover can turn on the TV and get hooked on their favorite team. Go outside the norm and invite your friends over to make caramel apples, popcorn balls, and all of your favorite fall goodies!

Visit a corn maze or just cuddle up in your favorite blanket and turn on all your favorite scary movies or maybe a comedy if you’re by yourself! If you’re feeling extra giving, take a trip to a nursing home in town. With fall and winter approaching, the elderly find warmth in the smiles of visitors! Also, what could be better than s’mores and a warm campfire? If the outdoors is your cup of tea, bonfires are the fall activity for you! Overall, autumn is a season full of possibilities. This fall, I challenge you to let go of the past just like the trees let go of their leaves, and see the beauty in living for today!
