Around this time of year, girls begin stressing over one of the biggest days in the spring besides graduation. Prom. Dress shopping, date finding, and making dinner reservations become the center of conversation. Money, time, and energy begins to be drained from the young minds of these young women, and that is not a good thing.
Dresses cost money, so do flowers, tickets, reservations, shoes, tuxedos, and hair and nail appointments. A lot of people say,“Just borrow a dress from someone!” But they must not realize that most girls have the mindset of looking different and standing out at prom, and wearing a dress that has already been seen before is not going to fulfill that need of being unique or being remembered for what they wore.
Some may argue that music and dancing makes the whole event fun enough to make up for the expenses, but from personal experiences and from testimonies of other senior students, that is not always the case. For example, last year at prom, a majority of the songs were country songs, which a lot of people around here like, but it is nearly impossible to dance to these songs and have a great time rather than a good time.
After the dance, things can either get more crazy or die out to the point of utter boredom. Some may find themselves in trouble with the law due to partying after prom, while some may go home and go to sleep, wasting all of that money on a couple hours that may not have even been that good of a time. The worst post prom issue is the hair. Tens, maybe even hundreds of bobby pins linger in the hair of the girls who wore updos to the dance. Lack of sleep ruins the whole next day after prom.
All of these circumstances are very inevitable for a majority of the girls at prom, and none of these are fun things to deal with. So, if you want to save yourself the hassle this May, skip prom!
