Admit it: You were once scared of something at JHS. Maybe it was the teachers, the upperclassmen, or just getting lost. The class of 2016 is here, and they are nervous about the same things we were. I wish someone told me these things for me before my transition from a Titan to a Crimson.
- The seniors really aren’t big and scary. They honestly don’t care that you are walking in “their” hallway. They won’t throw you in a trash can or stuff you in a locker. They’re more concerned about the English essay they didn’t do over the weekend.
- You won’t have to pull any all-nighters to finish homework. As long as you manage your time, you will be just fine!
- The teachers at JHS aren’t too strict, they just want you to succeed.
- Unlike the corridors at Hogwarts, these halls do actually stay the same from day to day. Don’t worry, you’ll figure them out soon.
- The upperclassmen remember what it was like to be a freshman; they’ve all been in your shoes! Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
- Don’t be afraid to join clubs, even if none of your friends join them. Clubs are a great way to make new friends and get to know some of the upperclassmen!
- Forget the horror stories your junior high teachers told you about JHS. Although there is more homework in high school, it’s not as bad as some may make it out to be.
- The extra activities are what make high school fun. Many upperclassmen would agree that Homecoming week is easily the best week of the school year. Just because you aren’t in an event in the pep rally doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go and watch! And just because you don’t have a date to the dance doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go. Many people go by themselves or with a group of friends.
- Don’t take your newfound freedom for granted. You will regret it later!
- Just have fun!
