Shootings unfold in Colorado neighborhood

Samson Mosley, Staff Writer

It is a very scary time for the citizens of Denver, Colorado as they have been plagued with horrifying events in a considerably short amount of time. In a span of 24 hours, two separate injury causing shootings have occurred within the city of Denver, Colorado. Both shootings took place on october 18 and were basically back-to-back occurrences.  The two shootings took place in two respective neighborhoods, Baker and Five Points. The citizens of Denver, and especially the citizens in these neighborhoods, are on edge due to these frightful happenings. Sadly there also have been multiple citizens injured in these shootings.

The first shooting occurred at about 9:00 p.m. in the Five Points neighborhood in the 2300 block of Welton Street. A man was shot and taken to the hospital with thankfully non life-threatening  injuries. The name and age of the man has not yet been released and police have not yet discovered what led the shooter to his actions, that is now under investigation. The second shooting took place at about 10:00 p.m. at West First Avenue and Bannock Street in the Baker neighborhood after an apparent robbery. A man was wounded and taken to the hospital; he remains in critical condition. His name and age have also not yet been released, and police have not yet released any suspect information.

These shootings add to the already long list of gun related injuries and occurrences this year and puts the ideas of gun control and gun violence in perspective. These issues don’t seem to be getting any better despite whatever actions have been taken against them. Hopefully the city of Denver can recover from these unfortunate events, and hopefully the citizens can remain courageous and rise above the events taking place around them.
