How to have a sensational summer seventeen

Abby Mitchell, Staff Writer

As the days of the school year wind down quickly, many of us are thinking,”What in the world am I going to do all summer?” Yes, relaxing by the pool sounds great the first couple weeks after school dismisses, but eventually we’ll all get bored.

Instead of laying around in the AC binge watching your favorite show, here are a few events going on in Jacksonville this summer that you can attend!

One awesome event that you can attend every Friday night from June 2 through August 4 is the Jacksonville Main Street Levitt Amp Concert Series. This is a free concert series which the public is invited to attend! The bands range from many different styles, so look into what band will be playing on the square Friday night and go check it out!

If you’re a Jacksonville native, you have either attended or at least heard of Cruise Night. This year’s Cruise Night and Car Show will be held on Saturday, June 10 from 8am-9pm downtown on the square. The judged car show will be held during the morning and afternoon on the square and Cruise Night will be held on Morton from 5pm-9pm.

Another fun weekend will be held at Nichols Park for the annual 4th of July celebration! The two day event (July 3-4) will be a celebration featuring kids’ events, fireworks, live entertainment, and much more! So, if you’re looking for some fun during the fourth of July, this event is a good option for you!

On July 12-16 Jacksonville will host their annual Morgan County Fair! Here you can experience five days full of fair rides, livestock judging, 4-H Club displays, baked goods contests, a talent show, and the Morgan County queen and princess pageant. You definitely don’t want to miss this!

An additional event that you don’t want to miss is the Jacksonville Main Street Artisan Fair. The fair will take place Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 5. This event is set downtown on the square and will feature fun, games, media, and numerous vendors. There will be art for both kids and adults!

So yes, there really are things to do in in our community after school dismisses. Everyone have a great summer!
