Jacksonville High School is incorporating a new test into the PSAE testing week. This test will be given to
sophomores on the second testing day.
The National Career Readiness Certificate will assess career readiness in students in the work force.
There are four levels that students can earn: Bronze, Gold, Silver, and Platinum.
The ACT states that this test “verifies to employers you have the “real world” skills needed to be
successful in today’s workplace.”
Local businesses and community members want to incorporate this test into their hiring process. It
makes employing a little more scientific, or technology based.
Business leaders and colleges came to Jacksonville High School and said that students were not coming
out of high school with the soft skills (i.e. interviewing skills) needed in the job market. The school
is using tools such as PBIS and the REF Program to improve these skills. This test is another way of
improving the skills necessary to acquire and keep a job.
