Forget the excitement of March Madness, it is time for the community of Jacksonville to feast our appetites on the popular dishes around the area for Munch Madness!
Starting March 1, 16 downtown restaurants began serving up their best dishes for the first round of the Munch Madness competition, brought to the area thanks to Jacksonville Main Street Program. The competition pits two restaurants against each other, and voters are encouraged to go online to jacksonvillemainstreet.com to cast a vote.
The ‘Sweet 16’ began with Charlie’s Coffee and Cones’ chicken salad sandwich with chips vs. Three Legged Dog’s chicken salad. Lahey’s philly cheese steak vs. The Irish Toad’s reuben steak. Norma’s North Star Café’s biscuits and gravy vs. Brickhouse BBQ’s BBQ chicken nachos. Mulligan’s Irish nachos vs. Lonzerotti’s seafood lasagna. Bahan’s Tavern’s cheese burger vs. Annabel Lee’s Tearoom’s chicken salad. The Flying Pig’s pulled pork sandwich vs. Leo’s Italian Pizzeria’s signature chicken alfredo. Muggsy’s Fine Dining’s grilled steak vs. Taco Gringo’s chalupa. The Frozen Penguin’s waddle waffle vs. The Bowl Inn’s cod fish fritter.
Currently Munch Madness is in its top 4 with Charlie’s Coffee and Cones against Lonzerotti’s and The Flying Pig against The Frozen Penguin.
These four will battle it out into the Championship Round. Then, the winner ultimately be decided April 4.
