Priya Pandya: Improving herself and JHS

Abby Mitchell, Staff Writer

A new face to the history department has been added to Jacksonville High School. Priya Pandya, a fresh young teacher on the scene, is here and has a lot to contribute to the JHS community. Ms. Pandya grew up in Chicago in a family of engineers and doctors. Although she could have taken the same path, she decided to do something different–teaching! Pandya knew that she was passionate to be a teacher from the time she was young.  When asked why she wanted to become a teacher she said, “There are a number of reasons as to why I became a teacher, but the most important reason would be because I know from personal experience that education is the key to success. I want to give all students the proper encouragement and motivation to thrive academically in order to have a prosperous future.”

Not only does she put a lot of effort into her teaching, but she is also currently taking steps to further her education. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she is now working towards her masters degree at Loyola University.

Ms. Pandya is a very involved individual. No matter where she is, she likes to get herself involved. After joining the JHS team, she noticed an opening for the National Honor Society advisor. Ms. Pandya took initiative and was chosen to take the lead. When asked why she chose to get involved she said, “During my junior and senior year of high school, I was a member of National Honor Society. As a member, I quickly realized what a privilege it was to be part of an organization that demonstrates excellence. I chose to be involved in NHS because I believe it is an even greater pleasure to work with outstanding students on different projects and services that illustrate the four pillars NHS is based on. Being the adviser of NHS allows me the opportunity to support student growth beyond the classroom.” She now instructs NHS by hosting officer meetings, meetings with the entire club, and inductions twice a year.

The dedication and commitment by Ms. Pandya has been exceptional thus far. She has worked towards improving JHS and surely she will continue to prosper along the way.
