Emily Feldker: Home away from home

Madison Cook, staff writer

Every year at Jacksonville High School, there are always a slew of new teachers who are welcomed by the community. This year one of the new teachers is Emily Feldker, who is 22 years old and hails from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

This is her first job out of college so she has really only been working about two months now. She became a teacher because she has always enjoyed helping people learn new things, and working at a school, there are countless opportunities to change lives. She says that to this day she still has teachers whose lessons she will always remember not just academic lessons, but life lessons.  So far she said she likes the teachers and the students equally at JHS because she feels they have both been very welcoming.

Originally from Belleville, which is about two hours from South Jacksonville, she moved to Jacksonville for the chance to teach here at JHS. She had no experience living that far away from home and not being around her family at all times.  She said she likes it here and thinks she made a good decision coming here.
