Bailey Brammeier: Do what makes you happy

Olivia Lee, staff writer

Becoming a teacher was always something Bailey Brammeier dreamed of when she was younger. Inspired by her own teachers as a student, Brammeier developed a natural gift for teaching and found something that truly made her happy.  Brammeier has been teaching special education for eight years now at Jacksonville High School.  “I found myself drawn to people with special needs, and I really enjoy working with them,” Brammeier explains. “So why not do something you love?”  Not only has she found something that she loves doing, Brammeier also strives to spread that love to all of her students and leave behind a legacy of compassion for people’s differences.  Brammeier is able to recognize the struggles and differences of others and encourages everyone to embrace them, “After all, this life would be so boring if we were all alike!”

Having a best friend that went through special education, Brammeier found herself intrigued by it.  Now that she teaches it herself, Brammeier explains how each day holds something new.  “You just never know what the day is going to bring,” she says.  “I could write a book with all of the heart warming stories, funny one liners, and crazy situations I have encountered over the years.”   Teaching her students for three to six years really helps Brammeier become close with each of them and allows her to be a part of every triumph and every struggle they may encounter.  Brammeier shares how one of her favorite things about teaching is watching her students have lightbulb moments, “Learning is pretty tricky for my kiddos, so watching them catch on to something and run with it is awesome!”

Being a teacher allows for countless memories to be made.  One of Brammeier’s all-time favorite teaching memories occurred not too long ago.  Many prominent people from around JHS attended a lunch that was made by Brammeier’s class.  Her students were able to successfully  learn real life skills and interact with so many different people. “It was amazing!”  Brammeier exclaims.

Some fun facts about Brammeier include her prior involvement in local theater.  She shares about her many performances taking place on the JHS stage.  Not to mention her interesting collection of bumble bees!
