Chelsea Williams: A selfless and loving teacher

Niki Patel, Staff Writer

Chelsea Williams is an English 9 and 10 teacher here at Jacksonville High School. She is originally from Cahokia, Illinois and Dupo, Illinois. She graduated from high school in 2008. Afterwards, her future plan was to attend SIUE for Secondary English Education. She graduated from SIUE in 2012. Williams then subbed for a year before coming to Jacksonville for a teaching position.

Williams decided to enter the world of teaching as early as the first grade. She recalls her teacher asking her to help her peers learn the alphabet because she learned it quickly compared to others. Williams passionately states, “I liked the feeling of helping others understand something.” In terms of teaching at JHS so far, and teaching in general, Williams really loves that moment when someone catches on to an idea or concept that he/she did not comprehend earlier, in other words, the light bulb moment. At JHS, she has had some really exceptional students and likes the sense of community. Williams expresses, “I honestly enjoy my job and want to get to know every single one of my students. When I see my students as actual people, it makes the less enjoyable aspects of the job easier to handle.”

Every teacher has a separate identity outside of school. Williams spends her free time playing with her dog, a German Shepard Corgi mix named Stumphrey. In addition, she enjoys visiting her family in the Metro East and spending cherished moments with her family members. She also pursues the interest of reading. One can conclude that Williams appears to hold value in the little things that we tend to overlook in our busy, mundane lives. Williams is a wonderful addition to our JHS staff. It is a pleasure to have a remarkable English teacher here at JHS who enjoys dedicating time towards the success of her students.
