Our beloved geography and history teacher, Casey Zang, first began her journey to becoming a teacher right here at Jacksonville High School. She first chose to become a teacher because she enjoyed learning the subject of history and the environment of the school. If she weren’t teaching, she said that she might have been a dental hygienist, a veterinary technician, or a dog groomer. Her favorite class specifically to teach is U.S. History because she feels that “America is the greatest country in the world.”
Mrs. Zang first began to think about teaching history as a sophomore in college at University of Missouri-Columbia, commonly known as Mizzou. Up until this point, Mrs. Zang was undecided in college as to what she wanted to major in like most people are when they go to college. She chose this field to teach because when talking about her past teachers she says, “They all helped me in some way. Some were passionate about the subject they taught, some taught me academic lessons as well as lessons on growing up and some were just there when I needed them for advice or someone to talk to.” She also states that her social studies teachers seemed like a fun group of people to work with and be around everyday. Mrs. Zang also thought that as a female could help get more girls interested in the subject of history.
Mrs. Zang says that, “As a graduate of JHS, I would have to say that one of my favorite things about working here has been the opportunity to work with many of my former teachers.” When asked what her biggest pet peeve is she responded, “When students don’t pay attention in class because my tests and quizzes come straight from the notes.” As a former student of Mrs. Zang’s, I can guarantee that she is one of the nicest and best educators that anyone could be taught by.
