Joe Brooks is a currently a driver education, health, and PE teacher, as well as the boys and girls tennis coach here at Jacksonville High School. Mr. Brooks began teaching at a very young age after receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Monmouth College and his Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University. He has been teaching for a total of 37 years.
In the past here at JHS, he has coached girls’ varsity basketball, softball, and tennis. As for the boys’ teams, he has coached football (assistant coach), track, and varsity tennis. Also, at Routt Catholic High School he has coached boys’ varsity basketball, football, track, and baseball. When it comes to sports, Mr. Brooks has coached it all.
Mr. Brooks’ favorite class to teach is driver education. He says, “There is never a dull moment.” He admits it helps that students want to pass his class in order to get their driver’s license. Brooks’ number one reason as to why he loves his job is “being involved with the great young kids.” He looks forward to helping them improve their skills so they can compete and have fun. He also has enjoyed working with so many great coaches throughout the years.
To students at JHS, Mr. Brooks is a friendly face whom we all look forward to seeing in the halls or in class. He is not only a great teacher and coach, but he is a great person. He will always go out of his way to help students who need it, and he always has their best interests at heart. He always knows how to put a smile on his students’ faces. JHS is very fortunate to have Mr. Brooks as a teacher, coach, and role model. Whether you know him as Coach Brooks or Mr. Brooks, you know that he will always do his best to help his students succeed.
