In a personal experience knowing Tim Thrasher, I know that he doesn’t settle for less. He is a great coach and has not only given me, but tons of people in this school, opportunity. He always tries to find the best in the students and athletes. “In my teaching, I use a lot of anecdotal stories to engage the students.” He also said he likes to be more personal with students to allow them to open up to him.
When asked about his favorite part of teaching, Thrasher jokingly said, “The time off.” Then he said, “It’s about the connections you make. I didn’t go straight into teaching. I experienced many different work fields. I discovered I liked interacting with people. I enjoy the challenge of working with kids and trying to improve them.” What many people may not know about Thrasher is that he is a three-sport coach, teacher, and a father of twin boys. When asked how he dealt with that and he said, “Most things in life are a compromise and having a family is no different. When it’s family time, that is my focus. The same can be said for my time in the classroom and coaching. Engage in what you are doing; many people float through life and rarely engage in what they are doing. My life is busy, but I like to get a lot out of it.”
Thrasher also said that as a teacher, father, and coach, he tries to influence people in a way that makes society a better place. “My hope is that I will have a positive impact on individuals but importantly society,” he stated.
I’m lucky to have Thrasher as a coach in all three sports that I play: football, wrestling, and track. We may not always agree, but I know he is trying to improve me.
