Alan Rickman, giant of Britain screen and stage, died at 69 on January 14, 2016 of cancer. One of the best-loved and most well-regarded British actors of the past 30 years died in London. Rickman was born in London, England, on February 21, 1946. His death was confirmed by his family who said that he died “surrounded by family and friends.”

Alan Rickman has for many years been playing the role of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies. Many actors including Daniel Radcliffe and author JK Rowling were among the first people to give their condolences and talk about how great an actor and man Alan Rickman was.

Alan Rickman played in many other movies including The Tempest and Love’s Labour’s Lost, Quigley Down Under, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  He played in many others as well but those seem to be his most famous ones in addition to the Harry Potter movies.

Alan Rickman will be sorely missed in the acting world and in general; he did a magnificent performance in the Harry Potter movies. Alan Rickman once said, “When I’m 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, I’ll be reading Harry Potter.  And my family will say to me, ‘After all this time?’ and I will say, ‘Always.'”
