While Twilight has just ended, The Host has just begun.
As Bella Swan’s story ends, Melanie Stryder’s story begins.
Melanie’s story begins in a world where humans have no control over their bodies or minds. Earth has been taken over by an invading alien race. These aliens, also called “souls,” use humans as hosts for their entire race.
Almost every human has been captured and has become a host. Only a few humans have survived the invasion. These humans are wild because they refuse to become walking puppets for the invaders. Melanie is one of these people, until she is caught by the aliens.
A “soul” named Wanderer is given Melanie’s body and is warned about the dangers of living within a human host. Now that she is living inside Melanie, she begins to realize that Melanie isn’t going to relinquish control of her mind without a fight. Wanderer continues to sort through Melanie’s memories to find the remaining human resistance, but the plan backfires.
The plan backfires because Melanie has been showing Wanderer images of Jared Howe, the man Melanie loves. As she continues showing Wanderer her life, Wanderer begins to have feelings for this man. She realizes that she cannot continue to ignore Melanie’s strength and will to live.
Both Melanie and Wanderer have to learn how to coexist with each other in order to survive.
This book, The Host, was written by the Twilight saga’s Stephenie Meyer. The Host was put into production as a movie and will been released March 29, 2013. The film’s director and screenwriter is Andrew Niccol; some of its stars are Saoirse Ronan as Melanie Stryder, Max Irons as Jared Howe, and Jake Abel as Ian O’Shea.
For anyone who has read the book you understand who these characters are, and for those of you who haven’t read the book, you really need to read it. If you are a fan of Stephenie Meyer’s work, then I think you will really enjoy this book and movie.
Remember this: we all have to make choices in our lives just like Melanie. What will you choose?
Choose to believe. Choose to fight. Choose to love.
