The Elder Scrolls Online

When the The Elder Scrolls Online first came out, it wasn’t anything that the fans of the series wanted. It was half of what the game was before and had half of the mechanics, and on top of all that, the game had a subscription service that was required to play the game.  For fifty dollars for three months, no one wanted to pay that for the game so eventually after a year of a low player count, they removed the the subscription service. The amount of players jumped from a few thousand to a few million and once again the beloved Elder Scrolls was back on top and had a huge player base. The game was also renamed The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited and then with that followed the console release of the game.  The Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the continent of Tamriel and the story directly connects with the rest of the games. The game had been in development for over seven years before it was released in 2014. As with the other games, it is set in Tamriel. The events of this entry is set years before III, IV, V. The structure of the game is similar to V with two separate conflicts progressing at the same time; the first is to save the world from danger and the other is to become the supreme ruler over Tamriel. The game is an MMO (massive multiplayer online) which is a first for not just the game but for the company. The company is used to making open world adventures, not multiplayer games, so it was a learning curve for the developers and not just the players.

The game is fun, not as great as the original formula for the series, but it still holds strong to the story. It is one of those games where everyone likes it or they don’t. There is nothing in between. I think this game has a solid fan base to keep it afloat until the next real Elder Scrolls comes out.
