A new fighter is born

Devon Huff, Staff Writer

Creed is a movie about a young man wanting to become a professional boxer. But this movie isn’t just about his dream. It is a continuation of the Rocky series. It has been several years after Rocky’s story and he has now retired. A new protagonist named Adonis Creed steps up and tries his shot at boxing. The movie stars Michael B. Jordan has Adonis Creed, Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Tessa Thompson as Bianca, and Tony Bellew as “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.

The movie starts off with Adonis wanting to make his dream of becoming a professional boxer come true. He trains by himself and wants it more than anything. He never knew his famous father and boxing champion, Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. He realizes that he cannot get into the professional ring without help from a professional trainer. Adonis seeks out the retired boxing champion, Rocky Balboa, to help train him. Eventually, Rocky agrees to train Adonis, testing him to see if he has the heart of a fighter.

Creed has been rated 7.8/10 from IMDb, 94% from Rotten Tomatoes, and 82% from Metacritic. Production of the movie cost $35 million. The movie has made $109 million domestically and $63 million from foreign countries.  The name of the movie changed from Rocky to Creed because of Apollo, Adonis’ deceased father. Apollo appeared in the second Rocky movie and was one of Rocky’s best friends. I have seen the movie and I think it was good. I have not watched all of the Rocky movies, but I have watched a few. I think the movie would have a nicer effect if you have watched all of the series before you watch Creed.
