Finally!

The millions of viewers watching the 2016 Oscars let out a big sigh of relief as they witnessed Leonardo DiCaprio finally win his much deserved Oscar award.  After five golden statue-less years of nominations, The Revenant was the movie to break him of his streak.  I could go on about Leo winning his first and long overdue Oscar, but he was not the only actor there to win.  The Oscar winner for lead female role was Brie Larson in The Room.  This is her first Academy Award but not her first award overall.  She has won many other awards such as the BAFTA Rising Star Award and the Empire Award for Best Actress.  For male supporting roles, Mark Rylance won for his role in Bridge of Spies.  I had never heard of him nor this movie until watching the Oscars, but from what they portrayed during the ceremony, the movie looked intriguing.  Alicia Vikander won the female supporting role for the Danish Girl.  Vikander has won the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress.  Mad Max: Fury Road won many Oscars.  They won costume design, sound editing, film editing, production design, sound mixing, and makeup and hairstyling.  The Revenant won an award for directing and Ex Machina won for best visual effects.  Amy won for feature documentary; A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness won short subject documentary; Son of Saul won foreign language film; The Hateful Eight won for original score music; the song “Writings on the Wall” won for the movie Spectre, a James Bond film; A Bear Story won for short film animation; Stutterer won for live action short film, The Big Short won for adapted screenplay; and Spotlight won for original screenplay.  Out of all the winners and nominees, I think we can all agree on the fact that Leo’s win was the most exciting, relieving, and most shocking win of all.  Until now, nobody could understand why he had not won a single Oscar after five years of nominations.  But finally, this was his lucky year.
