Will this be Leo’s year?

Kayla Flowers, staff writer

The most wonderful time of the year is here, and no, I’m not talking about a visit from jolly old Saint Nicholas.  I’m talking about the Oscars.  This is a time for tears, whether it be tears of happiness or sadness or even anger over who wins and who loses.  Many people are hung up in the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio is nominated yet again but may still have bad luck reigning against him.  Other people are saying he may win due to his movie The Revenant.  During this movie, Leo slept inside a dead horse, ate raw meat in order to survive starvation, and even survived a malicious bear attack.  Other nominations for male actors include Matt Damon in The Martian, Bryan Cranston in Trumbo, Michael Fassbender in Steve Jobs, and Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl.  And the leading roles for actresses include Cate Blanchett in Carol, Brie Larson in The Room, Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, Charlotte Rampling in 45 Years, and Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn.  For my prediction, since I have seen The Revenant, I propose that Leo DiCaprio has a great chance at winning because of what I said earlier.  He is also much overdue for this Academy Award.  He has been nominated for six years in a row and has not won a single Oscar.  And as for the female artists, I predict that Jennifer Lawrence in Joy will win this year’s Oscar. This is because she is so well known and has been a major role model for young girls ever since she starred in The Hunger Games trilogy.  These actors and actresses have some major competition on their hands due to the variety in the movies nominated and the actors portraying those characters.  I guess we will have to wait to find out!
