Beyond the Fury Road

Laurenz Moore, Staff Writer

The highly anticipated sequel and fourth movie in the Mad Max saga, Mad Max: Fury Road, was released in May and has since been called one of the greatest action movies ever made.

Taking place many years after the events of the third movie, Mad Max, or Max Rockatansky, a hardened police officer before the nuclear holocaust, gets captured by a group of road warriors and becomes trapped in the citadel, a small patch of shelter to thousands of holocaust survivors. Meanwhile, Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, leaves the citadel, run by a greedy tyrant of water, in search of gasoline for the citadel and those who drive for it. However, when true motives are revealed, tempers and engines flare as it becomes a chaotic race for safety to those who longed for it and an action-packed chase for those who control it.

For those who have yet to watch the film, just know that this film is probably the best action movie to be made this decade. The movie is an excellent waste of two hours and is masterfully directed. George Miller, the man who directed this film series and oddly enough, the Happy Feet movies, makes sure the movie-goer experiences the incredible sound and the in-your-face action each scene has to offer. Out of all four movies in the series, this one is my favorite. Tom Hardy is superb in his role of the new, more introverted Max; the story, while chaotic as usual, still had more continuity than the three past iterations, and action sequences are choreographed beautifully. This is a definite watch for those who have seen all three of the past movies and a great start for those getting into the series.

Mad Max: Fury Road is out on DVD and all of your other favorite disc-based viewing mediums. This movie is truly amazing and will have your attention hooked from beginning to end. Honestly, this is the best action movie made in the decade so far and a modern classic for anybody to frequently quote from and have a nice chuckle about. Seriously, an truly great film.
