The passing period bell song for this week is “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction. While this is most likely news to much of the student body, those already familiar with One Direction have already quickly joined the fan craze.
For those who did not identify with the song early Monday morning, One Direction is a British boy band. The five boys in the band often known as “1D” originated as soloists on the seventh series of the British television show “The X Factor.” Although none of the members continued as individual contestants, producer Simon Cowell grouped them together to form 1D. As a group, they placed third in the reality competition.
They reached instant success overseas and topped multiple charts in Europe. The mayhem quickly carried over to the United States. Their album “Up All Night” was released in North America on March 13. Their debut single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” sold 132,000 downloads merely in the first week.
1D consists of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. They are all between the ages of 18 and 20. Their smiles along with their charming lyrics make them nearly irresistible.
The boy band performed on the Today Show on March 12. 1D also plans to perform at the Kids’ Choice Awards on March 31 and on Saturday Night Live’s April 7 episode.
Keep your eye out for the latest from the most recent British invasion, One Direction!
